Procurement is becoming more than just a back-office function—it’s now a strategic driver for businesses navigating inflation, global supply chain issues, rising tariffs, and volatile commodity prices. Yet, many procurement teams are stuck using outdated tools that can’t handle today’s complexity. Compri, a Milan-based startup that’s putting procurement on autopilot with AI.

The company just raised €1.6 million in pre-seed funding to bring modern automation to the world of B2B purchasing. The round was led by Italian Founders Fund (IFF) and DFF Ventures, with backing from high-profile tech and procurement leaders like Carl Tremblay (ex-Plaid) and Giacinto Carullo (Chief Procurement Officer at Leonardo).

According to Compri, the fresh capital will be used to expand its commercial and tech teams and fast-track the development of AI agents designed to automate procurement workflows from end to end.

Revolutionizing Procurement with AI

As artificial intelligence transforms procurement, key tasks like spend analysis, supplier evaluation, and compliance monitoring are increasingly automated. Compri’s AI-powered platform aims to cut manual procurement work in half while unlocking up to 10% in cost savings—boosting profit margins for mid-market manufacturers.

Founded by Edoardo Arbizzi (formerly with Accenture and Ferrari) and Edoardo Gava (ex-VC at Milano Investment Partners), Compri is targeting over 70,000 companies across Europe. This includes 15,000 Italian firms managing a collective €4 trillion in annual corporate spending. Its ideal customer? A mid-sized business earning €10M–€1B in revenue, operating in a highly regulated, under-digitized industry.

In an interview, the founders revealed that the idea for Compri stemmed from their work with private equity-backed companies, where operational efficiency and procurement were consistent levers for value creation. They realized that what consultants used to do manually could now be replicated and scaled using AI—reducing cost, effort, and reliance on external advisory.

Why Compri Stands Out

Unlike legacy players like SAP Ariba or Coupa, Compri goes beyond digitization. Its AI agents handle supplier communication, document management, ERP updates, and more—automating up to 50% of procurement operations.

The platform seamlessly integrates internal company data (ERP systems, financial docs, emails) with external resources (market indices, credit ratings, ESG metrics). This empowers procurement teams with real-time insights and AI-driven decision-making, streamlining everything from vendor selection to regulatory compliance.

Compri’s value proposition is simple: give mid-sized companies the kind of procurement intelligence usually reserved for large enterprises—without the bloated costs or complex software stacks.

Rapid Growth and Real-World Impact

Compri is already onboarding industrial clients with annual revenues between €20M and €300M. The platform is set to manage over €500 million in spending in the near term. Its engineering team includes machine learning and data science talent from fast-growing unicorns like Lansweeper, Satispay, and Scalapay.

This high-performance team is driving innovation by building AI features tailored to procurement’s real pain points. The result? Less time on spreadsheets and emails, and more focus on supplier performance, cost control, and ESG compliance.

Investor Confidence in Procurement Tech

Lorenzo Franzi, Partner at Italian Founders Fund, explained why they backed Compri: “We’ve seen how inefficient procurement still is across Italy and Europe. Compri’s AI-first approach offers a smart way to improve margins, streamline operations, and deliver measurable value. We trust this team to build something huge.”

DFF Ventures also saw massive potential. Laurens Groenendijk, General Partner, added: “Procurement touches millions in spend, but most teams still use outdated tools. Compri brings clarity, automation, and control—without the manual grind. It’s our first investment in Italy, and we’re excited to support a team that’s deeply tuned into the market.”

Compri’s mission is simple yet powerful: bring intelligent automation to a critical business function that’s long overdue for disruption. With a strong founding team, early traction, and a clear product vision, Compri is well on its way to becoming Europe’s go-to platform for modern procurement.
