Swedish defense tech company MilDef has landed a new contract to supply ruggedized cybersecurity components for BAE Systems Hägglunds’ CV90 armored combat vehicles. This move strengthens the CV90 fleet’s cyber defenses against modern digital threats on the battlefield.

The deal, valued at 40 million Swedish kronor ($3.9 million), will see MilDef deliver advanced hardware network solutions designed to safeguard these vehicles from potential cyberattacks.

Advanced Cyber Armor to Protect CV90 Vehicles

As part of the project, MilDef will provide a package of small form factor radios, handheld communication devices, specialized electronics, and durable military-grade displays. These cutting-edge components are designed to withstand the harshest combat environments while enabling seamless network protection.

The cybersecurity package will be integrated into the CV90 fleet through a subcontract under Swedish defense firm Clavister, which secured the primary contract in December 2024. This upgrade focuses on embedding a “cyber armor” layer into the CV90 systems, leveraging Clavister’s secure network switches and security gateways. These solutions are built to perform effectively in complex and contested digital domains.

Project Timeline: 2025 to 2029 Delivery Window

The broader modernization effort is set to kick off in the second half of 2025 and continue through 2029. Once completed, the upgraded CV90s will have significantly enhanced cyber resilience, making them better equipped to handle evolving digital warfare threats.

Commenting on the partnership, Clavister CEO John Vestberg emphasized the growing demand for military-grade cybersecurity:

“Clavister and MilDef have built a solid partnership where cyber software meets robust hardware. As armed forces around the world embrace digital transformation, the need for enhanced cybersecurity becomes critical. MilDef is our ideal partner in strengthening future defense capabilities.”

This latest contract reinforces MilDef’s position as a trusted provider of cyber-secure communication solutions for modern combat systems. The company’s focus on rugged, mission-critical devices ensures that military personnel can operate effectively in high-risk scenarios without compromising on network security.

A Growing Portfolio of Defense Cyber Contracts

MilDef has been steadily expanding its footprint in the defense cybersecurity sector with several notable contracts:

  • November 2024: MilDef secured a deal to deploy rugged command and control systems for the Swedish Armed Forces, enhancing battlefield communication resilience.
  • October 2024: The company signed another contract to supply critical IT equipment for BAE Systems’ CV90 fleet, further solidifying its partnership with the defense giant.
  • September 2024: MilDef delivered IT solutions for the Danish Armed Forces’ artillery systems, showcasing its versatility in supporting heavy military hardware.
  • August 2024: The Swedish military also received MilDef’s robust IT systems for its weapon platforms, underlining the company’s role in fortifying various defense assets.
  • August 2024: MilDef supplied rugged computers for the Norwegian Armed Forces’ CV90 vehicles, boosting operational reliability in extreme environments.

With this new project, MilDef continues to demonstrate its expertise in delivering advanced cybersecurity solutions tailored for demanding military operations. As global conflicts increasingly extend into the cyber realm, the company’s hardware will play a crucial role in protecting key defense assets like the CV90 armored vehicles.
