Pentera, a company specializing in automated network attack simulations, has secured $60 million in Series D funding, pushing its valuation beyond $1 billion. Cybersecurity is only as strong as the teams defending it, and a leading startup is making waves by helping security operations stay ahead of potential threats. This latest investment will fuel mergers and acquisitions (M&A) and ongoing product development, according to CEO Amitai Ratzon.

Revolutionizing Security Testing with Automated Attack Simulations

Pentera, whose name is derived from “pen testing” (short for penetration testing), offers enterprises and government entities a cutting-edge solution for security validation. With just a click, organizations can simulate large-scale cyberattacks on their own networks to identify vulnerabilities—without causing real damage. “The beauty of our technology is that it’s completely safe by design,” Ratzon stated. Unlike traditional fire drills, these tests operate discreetly, keeping the broader organization unaware—just like real-world cyber threats.

A Surge in Demand for Cybersecurity Validation

Pentera’s rapid growth underscores the increasing need for automated security validation. Over the past four years, the company has expanded its customer base by 200%, now serving 1,100 organizations, while its annual recurring revenue (ARR) has surged by 300%. This Series D round was led by Evolution Equity Partners, with participation from Farallon Capital. Previous investors include Insight Partners, K1 Investment Management, and Blackstone. To date, Pentera has raised $190 million in primary and secondary equity funding, as reported by PitchBook.

AI and Automation Reshaping Cybersecurity

The cybersecurity landscape is being reshaped by artificial intelligence (AI), with both hackers and security teams leveraging AI-powered tools. Pentera integrates AI-driven insights into its attack simulations, pinpointing specific vulnerabilities across an organization’s infrastructure. These simulations generate vast amounts of security alerts—often as many as 10,000. However, Pentera’s system refines these alerts into six to eight root causes, offering actionable recommendations to security teams for mitigation.

Setting a New Standard for Security Validation

“Pentera has redefined enterprise security testing and validation practices,” said Richard Seewald, managing partner at Evolution Equity Partners. “Its exceptional growth, strong enterprise adoption, and category-defining innovation make it the clear leader in Automated Security Validation. We are excited to support Pentera as it expands globally and continues to set the industry benchmark for security validation.”

As cyber threats grow more sophisticated, organizations must stay ahead with proactive security measures. With its latest funding and ongoing innovation, Pentera is poised to lead the way in helping businesses and governments fortify their defenses against ever-evolving cyber risks.
